'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Galbraith resumes contest with City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he reminisces about the nail-biting dying seconds of his team's remarkable turnaround triumph against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The encounter culminated with Galbraith briefly donning a fan's glasses following the pitch-side pile-on.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a long-range effort from outside the box, and Cameron Burgess quickly hammered in the loose ball before charging toward the crowd to mark the goal, with supporters swarming the players.

Remarkable Recovery

This completed an extraordinary recovery given the Welsh side had trailed 2-0 midway through the latter period. In the euphoria, there was some minor mishaps. He shared, "There was a fan shouting out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're people, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

That win booked a fourth-round fixture at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a team Galbraith ran close at the same stage of the FA Cup with the London side in February. He had a prime vantage point when Orient took the lead in remarkable manner, with a teammate's first-time shot from about long distance going in via the crossbar and the Stefan Ortega. It feels criminal that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've given it to him for attempting the shot from that range," commented Galbraith, who played in the middle before moving to right wing-back after they changed shape. That meant facing off against Jack Grealish, with whom he traded tops, and the winger was among the opposition who praised the way Orient attacked the game.

City's Quality

"Athletically they are outstanding but even the basics and routine actions, they can just do it over and over again," the midfielder notes. "It appears that they never miss a pass and they are adept at control and slow down a game. You can feel you're all right and then suddenly they will just fizz a pass past your midfield without you even spotting it. You have to be alert throughout of the game. It takes a strong mentality and concentration just to keep pace."

New Chapter

Swansea pushed to sign Galbraith in January and beat off competition to sign him in the summer in a significant move. He established himself as a crowd pleaser across multiple campaigns at Orient and has rapidly achieved similar status in south Wales. At his previous team he joined forces once more with Richie Wellens, who previously gave Galbraith his first extended run in senior football on loan at a League One side from Manchester United. Then came a temporary move at League Two the Manchester club, before he moved on from his boyhood club.

Development Path

"I was probably a slightly green going into professional soccer. I think many athletes would say under-23s football is very different. Sometimes it appears possession is exchanged without serious challenge. There are limited hard challenges. Once you start playing professional matches you have to learn quickly."

Country Call-ups

He has shown that development for both domestically and internationally, shining for Northern Ireland, who could still reach the international competition next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has been selected in the last several matches, including both legs fixtures against Germany. The ex-coach, Galbraith's previous international manager, offered the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he controls possession and his ability to spot a game-changing assist.

Early Days

This represents an incredible journey for the player from the Queens Park estate in his hometown, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who grew up watching his parent, his father, also a midfielder, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Old Trafford Memory

The player's single match for Manchester United came in the away trip in 2019, a Europa League trip to Astana, where they featured on an artificial pitch and the stadium roof was sealed owing to temperatures of -15C. "It was a extended travel and it was freezing," he comments, grinning. "The week before, the academy prospects worked out jointly, so that assisted our preparation. Just to join the main group and earn some playing time at the end was incredible."

Departing Old Trafford

How difficult was it to depart Manchester United, the club he joined from Linfield aged his mid-teens? "This turned out relatively straightforward, because I got to the stage where I understood I wouldn't break through at the top level. I'm hugely grateful for the time I spent there but it got to the point where I thought I had to take a different path, drop down the leagues and play first-team games. Now I'm slowly progressing again."

New Environment

This occurs during the middle of the day at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has somewhere to be at late afternoon: a road rules assessment, another step towards getting on the road. Before his recent move to the local area, the mid-twenties player was a regular in Swansea's so-called fun bus, a minibus driven by club employees, Pete and Howard, which transports players to and from training and matches.

"It's myself Gonçalo Franco, another squad member, an Ivorian player – a former passenger used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's pleasant to spend time with the guys but I'm aiming to be the subsequent individual to drive independently and driving. The Portuguese player likes to pull a few pranks; he's constantly causing mischief."

Supporter Connections

While playing for Orient, Galbraith would blend in with followers on public transport after commuting at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
