The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Each time a prominent prize-giving event draws close, you'll find a clamor for introducing fresh award types to honor overlooked contributions and delight the spirits of fans who have specialized interests.

My colleague previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case supporting my request stands as crucial and significant. This is the request: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and typically spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise in the world of gaming, showing incredible range they hardly constitute a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies presently include classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these classifications actually cover many game types, allowing placement for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Think about these recent excellent titles, all very different: structural challenges in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. What category would fit them among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly without proper recognition in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated in any category during that awards season
  • A different innovative game missed out in 2019
  • Well-received sorting experience was overlooked that year
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games managed to sneak into niche award types

Value of Brain-Teasers

These are often modest productions, yet the craft of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games count as the most-played games in the world and have been for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with famous sandbox experiences for the title of best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and engaging across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. One could readily select multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these are games without proper classification in important events. Brain-teaser creators are working at the challenging frontier game development, developing some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Comparable to film action specialists, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
